At Girl Fit Physical Therapy, we strongly believe that physical therapists play an important role in injury prevention. Why would we wait to treat an injury when we can help prevent it? We want to keep you in the game. This is why we created our Wellness options at Girl Fit. Our group classes and membership workout programs are currently on hold due to COVID, however Wellness Visits are still available both in-person and virtually. Here are 5 great reasons to choose a wellness visit.
Whether it is strength training for a sport or staying fit, exercise programs are not one size fits all. Our physical therapists can check your strength, flexibility, body mechanics, running gait, balance, and more in order create an exercise program tailored to your specific needs.
Starting a new sport or activity? This is a great time to establish care with a physical therapist to find out how to safely start and progress your training program. We can help you choose the right kind of cross training and stay strong for your new sport. Have you heard about “The Girl Who Decided to Go For it!”?
Want to learn about preventing injuries in your specific sport? Our physical therapists have personal competitive backgrounds in dance, gymnastics, cheerleading, volleyball, lacrosse, softball, running, swimming, diving, and more. But, we are also movement experts! We can perform video movement analysis of almost any activity to help break down potential injury risks. We are able to identify strengths and weaknesses to find opportunities for more efficient movement. This can help enhance performance and prevent injuries in any sport.
Do you have a little ache, pain, pop, or snap that isn’t really an “injury” but has you a little concerned? This is a great time to check in with a physical therapist! These can sometimes be warning signs for future injuries. A snapping hip might not mean much to you, but it does to us! We can help you address those snaps, pops, aches and pains before they turn into something more serious.
Everything we address to prevent injuries can also make you a better, stronger, and faster athlete. One mom even said to us, “My daughter’s gymnastics skills have gotten so much better and I know it’s not a coincidence!”. Whether it is landing an axel, earning a personal best, or making the team, we’re proud to get to be a part of your success. Check out our testimonials page and blog for more stories from our patients.
The best physical therapists will make sure to discharge you from PT with a comprehensive home exercise program that you understand how to safely progress. But, we know it can be tough to stick to a program long term. Help set yourself up for success by scheduling a check in with your physical therapist every month or two. We can progress your home exercise program, answer your questions, or recheck the things we addressed in physical therapy. This can also help you to hold yourself accountable for follow through on a good long term program.
After graduation from physical therapy, you might also feel like dry needling, Graston Technique, cupping, or another manual technique is a helpful adjunct to your home exercise program long term. If your physical therapist agrees, then Wellness Visits would be the most appropriate choice for this type of maintenance work.
Everyone’s body changes from year to year, especially children and adolescents. Growth spurts can result in changes in flexibility, strength, balance, and more. Unfortunately, this timeline often coincides with increases in training volume, specialization in sports, and a more competitive athletic environment. This can be a recipe for injury, but we can help you get through these times more smoothly.
Our bodies don’t stop changing when we become adults. Strength, flexibility, and endurance can change as you age. Plus women also experience additional changes with pregnancy, child birth, breast feeding, and menopause. We are here to help you get through all of these times. An annual check up with a physical therapist is a proactive way to take care of your body and set yourself up for success through every phase of life.
If you’d like to schedule a Wellness Visit with one of our specialized physical therapists just give us a call at 617-618-9290 or email us at office@girlfitrocks.com. We can’t wait to help you succeed in the activities that you love.
